Individual Coaching

Executive Coaching for individuals

Your breakthrough for less stress and more success, however you define it.

Tricky, curveball transitions.

A new opportunity with a fast-approaching deadline.

Or that insistent whisper you just can’t ignore anymore… what should I do now?

Every executive’s career includes some crucial crossroads moments. When something disrupts your sense of solid ground, suddenly your direction is clouded.

You’re presented with many paths forward, and aren’t sure how to evaluate and decide.
You’ve been thrust into a transition, and need clarity as you navigate this new territory.
You’re feeling stagnant in your career and something within you is calling out for more.
→ Despite your confidence in your technical abilities, you still feel unsteady, unheard, or like you’re not enough.
You’re confronted with something new — a new boss, new project, new job, new downsizing, new direct reports, new performance expectations…

Moments like these in your career are a given, but how you respond to them is everything.

Uncertainty can be a challenge — or it can be a catalyst, opening the door to powerful new possibilities.

You can’t think your way out of a problem.

Here’s your catalyst to take action instead.

It’s normal to need support for your career’s big questions. As your challenges become more complex, your friends, family, or colleagues can’t be an effective sounding board anymore, and ruminating on your own won’t get you unstuck.

Executive coaching can help you unlock what’s been holding you back so that you can take confident, consistent action towards your authentic aspirations.

  • With openness, deep insight, and accountability, coaching can help you:
  • Improve your executive presence and confidence
  • Level up your focus, productivity, and energy
  • Strengthen your decision-making skills and self-trust
  • Increase your agility when faced with risk and change
  • Tap into your personal values and purpose to add deeper meaning to your career

As your executive coach and trusted partner, I’m in your corner, helping you clarify what you most want and grow your confidence in your ability to get there.

Unlock your possibility with Executive Catalyst Coaching.

Here’s how it works:

The Executive Catalyst Coaching method builds upon your strengths, progressing first from insight to strategy and finally to concrete action. You’ll lift the pressure from your shoulders, sort through all the details, and renew your energy with a plan that actively moves you forward.

1. Shake it off

First, we get the lay of the land, exploring your professional context and the situation you’re facing without judgment. With gentle precision, we pinpoint and unpack the beliefs, dynamics, or habits you’ll need to challenge in order to get unstuck.

2. Make a plan

Your new awareness unlocks action. With more insight about who and where you want to be in the future, now you can begin to close the gap between here and there. Through sessions and exercises calibrated specifically to you, you’ll plan your next steps towards goals that are meaningful to you.

3. Shake things up

This style of coaching isn’t just thought work — it’s also about trying real-world experiments to truly move you forward. Incremental, consistent change builds your sense of safety, confidence, and momentum. You’ll not only achieve what you set out to do, but you’ll also surprise yourself with things you didn’t know were possible.

The end result? You feel differently and you do things differently. That’s what the catalyst method is all about.

I am a changed person, both personally and professionally, after working with Karen. There was a dramatic shift in how I perceive myself and how others perceive me. I am more confident in front of executives, I am more open to receiving feedback and giving feedback, and I spend more time at work focusing on what value I bring to the organization versus trying to please others.

Karen held me accountable, gave me relevant tasks to work on in between coaching sessions, and asked thought-provoking questions that led me to come up with a different approach and perspective to putting myself out there. She was kind and compassionate but really made me think about what was holding me back, and she was able to very quickly uncover some of my internal conflicts.

Working with Karen was a life-changing experience. She coaches the whole person and has a style that really takes you out of your comfort zone, for the better.

Danielle Erringer
Senior Director, Human Resources

Karen is a thoughtful listener who was able to comprehend my role and challenges very quickly. I was successful in my role for 4+ years, but I was exhausted from the emotional and intellectual demands of managing the political environment.

Karen was there for me each step of the way. She helped me navigate the day-to-day challenges and supported me through the transition of finding a new role well aligned with my skills and passions in a healthy environment. She was my mirror, pushing me to see the whole picture and be very honest in evaluating the situation and solutions.

The personal plan for your path forward.

What’s included? Everything you need and nothing you don’t.

Standard coaching packages, minimum engagements, and endless assessments are yesterday’s business.

Instead, I prioritize a human-first, personalized approach to get you where you’re going efficiently.

In our consultation call, I ask questions to help us pinpoint the problem you’re really trying to solve. You may not know exactly what it is, and that’s okay —  my job is to help figure out what could be most impactful or time-sensitive to focus on.

In your proposal, I lay out 2-3 targeted ways we can work together to close the gap between where you are and where you’d like to be. After reviewing the options, you decide which path forward is right for you.

Throughout coaching, I guide you through a custom process that includes purposeful questioning, exercises, and tools. We share a clear objective for your progress so that you can track what success will look and feel like for you.

Our work together includes:

  • A time-bound plan and measurable goals: Clear expectations keep coaching focused and ensure that you get the results that matter to you —  quickly.
  • Individual coaching sessions: Typically 30-90 minutes long, you’ll have the dedicated time, confidential space, and trustworthy sounding board you need to work through your big questions.
  • Assignments and exercises, tailored to your capacity: As much or as little “homework” as you need to help you keep building momentum between sessions.
  • Ongoing support between sessions: To help you stay in motion, I’m by your side through email and text to answer questions and share resources.

I’m committed to making sure that you’ll have a timely impact for your investment. The duration of coaching is individualized to you, but many clients find that even just 4-6 sessions can transform their trajectory. You won’t be waiting for the completed puzzle for six months — you’ll start putting the pieces together right away, clearly envisioning the way forward.

Ready to kickstart your career catalyst?

What’s included? Everything you need and nothing you don’t.

Because you deserve my undivided attention and support, I only work with a handful of clients at any given time. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch so that you can begin moving forward without delay.

Remember, if you’re dealing with something urgent, it’s not too late to recalibrate and take control. And if you’re sensing some change on the horizon, you can give yourself more time to prepare by reaching out in advance!

I approached Karen for her expertise during a period of career transition. At that time, no longer a subject matter expert in my day-to-day work, I was struggling with self-confidence and truly suffering with that popularly identified “imposter phenomenon.”

Karen’s diagnostic process was subtle, participatory, conversational and encouraging, all brought together with the right balance of probing dialogue that ALWAYS felt conversational, friendly and warm. Not once did I feel under critical examination, rather part of substantive and formative dialogue aimed at helping me overcome the gap in my self-confidence.

Karen’s guidance and techniques awakened those once dormant, and now self-sustaining, internal dialogues of self-worth and value. Forever grateful for Karen’s thoughtful wisdom and comforting guidance!

Nolan Margo
Senior Manager, Business Intelligence

I reached out to Karen when the organization and leadership changes left me feeling professionally vulnerable and displaced as a leader, which was an uncharacteristic experience for me.

Karen’s sincere interest in you as a person and the outcomes you’re seeking makes her terrific at asking great questions that lead to illuminating discoveries. She not only listens to what you say and how you say it, but also what you leave out. Karen’s questions are a powerful combination of gentle yet probing and revealing, and will guide you to rapid self-discovery and action.

One of the things I marveled at most (and still do to this day!) was how quickly Karen was able to help me get to the root cause of my anxiety. Her expert prompting and coaching helped me quickly uncover the “why” which was my “Eureka!” moment. Almost instantaneously, I felt like a huge weight had been lifted from my shoulders and a path forward was revealed. With greater clarity of the outcomes I wanted to achieve, I could build a concrete action plan to get there. Everything was within my reach. It was exciting and empowering!

Meet your coach, Karen Breen

I’m your personal thought-provoker, purposeful questioner, and Chief Encouragement Officer.

I founded Seachange Strategy because I’ve been in your shoes.

Like you, I was once an executive in need of some real-deal support. With 30+ years of leadership experience in Fortune 50 companies and startups, I know what it’s like to be swimming upstream or feel lost in the tides.

I became a certified executive coach to help other leaders in a similar position. After guiding over 100 executives on their journey to greater clarity and fulfillment, here’s what I want you to know:

You are enough, even in the midst of new challenges — you just haven’t learned what you need for this moment yet. And with some coaching, we can build from your strengths to help you achieve whatever is calling out within you.

As your coach, I provide the wisdom, knowledge, perspective, and resources to help you chart your authentic path forward. You just need to show up with your whole self for the work.

New to executive coaching? Curious about my approach?

Here’s what others have asked before working with me.

What is executive coaching?

Executive coaching is a partnership designed to help you maximize your professional and personal potential and satisfaction. I provide a confidential, trustworthy, structured environment where you can explore your challenges, build confidence, clarify and achieve your goals, and develop new mindsets that last.

As a coach, I’m a neutral-sounding board you can count on. I ask purposeful questions, share resources, help you better understand yourself, and help you plan your next steps to move forward.

Coaching isn’t advice, and I won’t tell you what to do. I’m not a therapist, mentor, friend, peer, or personal Oracle of Delphi. Instead, I help you access your inner insight and provide structure for your growth.

What kinds of leaders do you coach?

I work with high-potential leaders and mid-to-late-career executives in a variety of roles and fields.

I have a particular passion for…

Coaching introverted executives to better leverage their authentic quiet power
Helping clients navigate all manner of transitions upward, outward, and onward
Exploring clients’ pre-retirement transitions & possibilities

What are sessions like?
In our confidential sessions (by phone or Zoom), you are completely seen and heard. You’re free to openly express yourself and share what’s on your mind with no worries about how you’ll be perceived.

Throughout our work together I’ll ask powerful and unexpected questions, help draw out and organize your thoughts, and reflect insights back to you. I guide our sessions with purpose, offering new tools, resources, and exercises to help you feel clearer and more connected.

Our time together is fun, engaging, non-judgmental, and intensive. As our work together progresses, we celebrate the new insights you’ve gained and the new behaviors you’ve tried.

How long does coaching take? How much time do I need to put into it?
The duration of our work together completely depends on your needs, so the number of sessions you need is something we determine after an initial consultation.

Clients typically make substantial (and exciting!) progress in about 4 – 6 sessions, and you always have the opportunity to continue coaching and go deeper. We begin with a 90-minute session and then usually meet weekly or every other week for 30 – 60 minutes, depending on your schedule and your needs. Between sessions, you can continue to build your momentum by exploring assignments and resources that I curate for you.

What are your credentials?

Being an ethical and truly effective coach for you is my highest priority. Just about anyone can call themselves a coach, but you deserve support from someone who is truly qualified to help you. When you work with me, you have a rigorously-trained coach and a rigorously-tested executive by your side.

I am:

  • A seasoned startup and Fortune 50 executive with 30+ years of direct experience driving B2C and B2B growth
  • A Columbia University-certified executive coach
  • A member of the International Coaching Federation
  • Certified in Positive Psychology
  • Harvard Business School-certified in general management
Do you have experience with my particular challenge or situation?

I draw upon my coaching expertise and my own executive background to offer the right tools for your situation and effectively meet you where you are. Across my 30+ years as a corporate warrior, I’ve reckoned with a boatload of situational, political, cultural, and interpersonal challenges, but we always prioritize your experience. The principles and techniques of coaching apply across any situation and can help you move forward, no matter the particulars of what you’re facing.

When can we start working together?
In our consultation call, we discuss your desired timeline and the urgency of your concerns, and I shape your proposal accordingly. Whether you’re facing an imminent challenge or something important but less time-sensitive, we’ll find a way to give you what you need.
